My child attends a mini tennis class. During the session they do lots of exercises without tennis rackets. Please can you explain?
To give children the best opportunity to reach their full potential they will spend a proportion of each session developing the ABC's - Agility, Balance, Co-ordination and Speed. Fine technical detail is then added as the child develops and moves through the stages of mini tennis.
Maximum Coach to Pupil Ratio
Mini Tennis Red 1:8
Mini Tennis Orange & Green 1:8
Turbo Tennis 1:12
My child doesn't seem to be making much progress?
All children develop at different rates so don't worry if they seem to have fallen behind their peers. They may just develop later and will catch up in the future. We will give you feedback at the end of each term to help you gauge their performance.
When do players move up groups?
Players move through the levels when they are able to serve and rally effectively and judge the flight of the ball for each level. They must also be mentally ready for the next level which includes being able to concentrate and listen throughout the duration of each session.
How do I rebook my child onto next term?
We will write to you with a letter (and re-booking form) at the end of each term giving details of the next course. This will be emailed to you, or in the case of no email address will be sent in the post (our aim is to make all correspondence paperless in the future) Please then send in the completed re-booking form either by email or by post and a cheque made payable to 'Southdown Tennis Academy'

Futures Groups
My child has been invited to attend a futures group and I would prefer them to attend that group rather than their current group. Is this possible?
No. The futures groups are for players we feel should be fast tracked through our programme and have the potential to become players of good club, county or national level. Therefore the futures group must be an extra group to their current group so that they are able to practice more. We also strongly recommend that players attending these groups also take individual lessons to help with stroke development
Other children in the futures groups are playing regularly in competitions. Where can I find more information on mini tennis tournaments and how to enter?
We strongly encourage our 'futures' players to play in regular competitions. Ask one of the coaches for further details or go to the tennis sussex website by clicking here

Holiday camps Is it possible for the 4 to 7 year olds to come to the older age group camps?
Yes. If they are competent at orange level or above. You must speak with a coach before booking a younger child onto an older age group camp.
Can i get a discount on holiday camps if i book days in different weeks? (summer only)
Each week is a separate event, discounts only apply if you book more than one day in a week.
What other sports will be included in the camps?
The camps will focus heavily on tennis. This includes agility, balance and co-ordination as well as speed, movement and fitness. During our Summer camps we may play other sports for a small proportion of the time.

Policies
What happens when it rains?
Every session will run regardless of the weather as long as it is safe to do so. The price of the courses are reflective of this. There are no refunds or credits.
If there is any doubt as to whether the session is to go ahead parents should phone reception to find out if the session is to go ahead. The coach will inform reception 20 minutes before the start of the session if it is unsafe to play.
Credits and refunds
No refund will be granted after the term or camp begins. A credit will be issued in case of a documented medical problem.
Feedback
We aim to provide the best tennis experience possible for all players. On occasions though, we may not always get things right. We are very open to any constructive feedback you may have on creating the best tennis environment possible.
